I started keto on February 16th, 2019. When I started keto I weighed 400lbs. Now, 11 months later, I have lost 152lbs and weigh 248lbs. My original goal weight was 250lbs, which I have passed, and now my new goal weight is 225lbs. I started keto to lose weight but now I am doing it to be a healthier person. Keto truly has changed my life. Now I am helping several people do keto so they can also become healthier.
The reason why I started this diet was because I was always feeling tired and exhausted even when I wasn’t doing anything. It didn’t matter how much sleep or rest I got. I heard someone one day talking about keto. We got to talking about it and what it was. I did some research and decided to give it a try. I had tried many different diets in the past and none worked, so I wasn’t very optimistic about it. When I first started I didn’t weigh myself for a month, and when I did that first time I was surprised by how much I had lost. I believe it was around 20lbs. That was motivating.
Now several people whom I work with have started keto. One of them told me that after watching me do keto and lose the weight I have, I motivated him to also try keto. Now I look at keto not as a diet but a way of living. I am helping people start keto and make their own journey. I am enjoying helping people with their keto journey probably more than losing the weight that I have.
1. What tactics did you employ to help you get to your goal? What did you find helped you get to your goals best?
To get to my goal I did intermittent fasting with my keto. I also from time to time did one meal a day. One meal a day was good for when I stalled. I believe intermittent fasting helped a lot to get to my goal.
2. What is the most impactful change you’ve made to your diet and why do you feel it’s been the most important?
The biggest impact that I have done to my diet is cutting carbs and sugars out. Since I have done so I have had more energy and have felt better.
3. What is the best single piece of advice you can give to someone that is just starting out?
The best advice I have is keep it simple and don’t overcomplicate it.
4. How do you feel your life is now that you’re at your goal?
I am enjoying life a lot more now that I have lost the weight. I have self confidence that I have never had before. I mean, for one, I have done something that at one point in time I never thought I could do.
5. What do you consider the biggest change in your day-to-day life?
The biggest change I have noticed from day to day is the energy level I have. It is not just from losing weight but also from doing keto and being fat adapted. I can get more things done in a day because I am not tired or too worn out to do it.
6. What did you do to find support throughout your journey?
I used social media for support to make it through my journey. I found others that were also doing keto. One thing that also helped was I took a picture at the beginning, and when I felt down because I wasn’t losing like I thought I should, I would pull that picture up and tell myself “you don’t want to be like that again.”
7. What do you currently do to manage your day-to-day diet?
I monitor how many carbs and sugars I have each day. I try to keep my carbs below 20g and keep my sugar at 0g.
8. What is your favorite keto recipe from www.ruled.me that’s become a staple?
My favorite recipe is Keto Neapolitan Chia Pudding. I like this recipe because it is easy to make and it is delicious. This is my treat I give myself when I am craving something sweet.
9. If there is one thing that you could do differently during your journey, what would it be and why?
The only thing I would change is I wish I would have had a friend that would have done it with me. The reason being is we could have worked through the bad times together.
