When I started Ruled.me, I really wanted to be able to help people lose weight and get to their own weight loss goals no matter what. I had been successful and many others had also been at the time, but there just wasn’t that much information out there on the ketogenic diet. It’s been an extremely rewarding experience to help so many people, and I’m really happy that Kathleen is one of them.

On a daily basis, I get many e-mails from people in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s thinking that they just can’t do a ketogenic diet. They think it’s too late for them to take action, or that there might not be any point to switching diets anymore. I ran a contest on Ruled.me for the most impactful keto stories out there. Kathleen so kindly wrote her story for everyone to see, and I’m very pleased that she did. She’s the face that no matter what age you are, you can still make your weight loss and health goals a reality.

So, without further ado, here’s Kathleen’s story!

Kathleen’s Ketogenic Journey

I started the ketogenic diet using ruled.me because of the wonderful help I received. Craig gave us (my husband and I) detailed information on why it works and how to do change our habits and recipes that had step-by-step instructions. I followed the diet exactly and started to lose about 4 pounds a week.

I hit a plateau at 20 pounds, and emailed Craig. He was very kind to answer my email himself with specific advice. I started losing a little slower this time, but consistently until I reached a loss of 40 pounds.

I am half the person that I used to be and will never, ever go back. I love the ketogenic diet for health reasons, as well as weight and size. I have improved health from cholesterol, auto immune disease issues and high blood pressure.

Even when we go out to eat, I order from the menu and ask the waitress to make changes, which ketofies my meal. They are always happy to accommodate me.

I would like to lose 20 more pounds. I went from 200 lbs. to 160 lbs. and am maintaining that with my current food intake and exercise level. I am 65 years old and my optimal weight for my height is 140.

I am still losing inches, however. I have such a wonderful shape now compared to what I was, and my only issues are the small spare tire and thicker inner thighs. Of course, they are still shrinking, even though my weight is the same.

How Kathleen Did It

What is your favorite recipe from Ruled.me?

Fat Bombs. One of my favorites is the Neapolitan Fat Bombs.

What is your favorite ingredient to use when making ketogenic recipes?

Stevia has helped me out greatly with a lot of recipes and to aid with my sweet tooth.

What is/was your motivation to keep on track?

Weight loss, which was an uphill battle prior to following Craig’s books.

Did you ever encounter a stall? If so, how did you get over it?

Yes, Craig recommended eliminating some dairy when I stalled at 20 lbs. and I quickly lost 15 more pounds right away and 5 more in the year since, but many, many inches as well.

How did you hear about keto, and why did you start?

My Youth Pastor at the church where my husband is Senior Pastor. He and his wife used it and she soon went from looking like me to looking like her 18 year old daughter’s twin. I have been this same example to others and recommended Craig’s books to dozens of family and friends.

In what aspects have your life changed since going keto?

I eat keto all the time, as a way of life. I also have auto immune disease and keto cuts back on those symptoms as well as aids in weight loss.

What piece of advice would you offer to people that are just starting out on keto?

Follow Craig’s books word for word! That is what I did and that is what I recommend for a successful journey.

What did you personally do in your first 2 weeks of keto? (i.e. Drink broth, go for a walk, throw food out, etc.)?

I never waste food…have been without food before in my life. I ate pretty “healthy” before, but followed other diets that said low fat and high fruits and veggies every day. That was my main mistake and when Keto helped me to realize and overcome to start losing weight. I have ketoproof coffee for breakfast with chocolate goat’s milk in powder, main meal of meat and green veggies for lunch, salad for supper and fat bombs mid day.

Helping Others

Kathleen was the winner of the Ruled.me Keto Transformation Story. I was really happy to see her story come through as it was a long time ago when she first reached out to me. I’m really glad that she has chose to live the ketogenic lifestyle and not look back.

She’s such a kind woman, too! The winner had been promised an iPad with all of my books, but instead she said that she did not need it (and has all of the books already). I wanted to make sure that something was done in her favor, so she told me to make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
