Rachel Lost 100 lbs and Reversed Her Fatty Liver

Rachel Lost 100 lbs and Reversed Her Fatty Liver

On June 21, 2018 I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a fatty liver. I began keto the very next day. I am no longer on blood pressure meds, no longer on pain meds and no longer have a fatty liver! I no longer need a seat belt extension when I fly to see my kids! Keto saved my life.

Oh, and my husband joined me on this journey. I took off 100 pounds! Hubby took off 118 pounds!

1. What tactics did you employ to help you get to your goal? What did you find helped you get to your goals best?

I began scouring the internet, YouTube and Instagram. I was excited to learn what I needed, for FREE, on www.ruled.me, and the free versions of Carb Manager and MyFitnessPal. I made a plan to make a recipe book with the recipes I tried, of course I didn’t keep the not so successful ones. Having a record of meals was somewhat new to me, but so helpful. I also planned menus for the week. No surprises meant no excuse to eat whatever.

2. What is the most impactful change you’ve made to your diet and why do you feel it’s been the most important?

Getting rid of sugar in all forms was the biggest change and challenge for me. I was shocked to learn how much sugar is in EVERYTHING. It’s most important to read labels.

I enjoy baking and making treats for my husband and friends. I happen to be allergic to chocolate, but I enjoy making things for my hubby.

3. What is the best single piece of advice you can give to someone that is just starting out?

Be patient, don’t give up. The start is very much a detox, you won’t feel great BUT it gets so much better. I was in constant pain before keto, my inflammation is all but gone. No more pain meds and muscle relaxers!

4. How do you feel your life is now that you’re at your goal?

Goal? Well, I decided that I would not focus on a number. I worked for a number in the past and I wasn’t happy when I got there. So, I am focused on my health, strength and how I feel. Life is fun, and I am enjoying so many new things. I flew to family and didn’t need a seatbelt extension. I cried tears of joy!

5. What do you consider the biggest change in your day-to-day life?

In day-to-day life, I’m less focused on food, on my next meal. Food has its place now: energy, fuel. Yes, I still look to celebrate others and myself with a treat, but it’s not my single waking thought! Liberating!

6. What did you do to find support throughout your journey?

I found a keto community. On Instagram: @dat_keto_lady, @keto.sam.i.am, and others to share thoughts, struggles and victories! YouTube as well: 2krazyketos, KetoConnect, Dr. Ken Berry, Watch Autumn Keto. Real people sharing their journey helped so much.

7. What do you currently do to manage your day-to-day diet?

I have changed my mindset. This is not a diet, it’s my life. My choices are for life and living well. I will never go back to destroying my body, mind and heart.

8. What is your favorite keto recipe from www.ruled.me that’s become a staple?

Oh, I have a few favorites. Roasted Chicken Thighs in Red Pepper Sauce, my husband actually requests this often! I also love the Seared Skirt Steak with Cilantro Paste, SO good!

9. If there is one thing that you could do differently during your journey, what would it be and why?

I wish I would have done this 20 years ago!
